Windsurfing: Bradfield Wind Direction: S/SW Wind Stength: F2/F5 Surf / Sea State: Mid Swell / Flat Air Temperature: warm Sea Temperature: warm Weather: Sunny Max Speed: 18.46 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 10.4 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
Had intended to do Felixstowe at low tide am, but was busy till later, so
went to Bradders HT 3.15. There were 7 out, wings and windF. It didn't look
great with lulls then huge gusts, making sail choice difficult. Wingers
were 6M, wind 7M. It was pretty hot in my 3mm suit, so drank a fair bit of
water be4 leaving.
We had to drift to the far side of the river to get to the wind band. I
slogged for 30 mins, whilst all the others were foiling, especially the
winger James flying thru the lulls.
Foiling is a pain for adjustments. I forgot to fit the 500 stab (left the
300 0n set at -2. The wind wasn't strong enough for that set up with the
1100 front. I tried undoing my mast foot to pull it back a bit, but
couldn't budge it. Luckily about an hour be4 HT the wind gusts were longer
and stronger! Perfect for my setup! Poxy sport! Had 3 runs from Mistley end
to Wrabness which was fantastic as the water was flat except for the
middle. The other guys had a good time, although all hated the gusty off
shore wind which is typical on rivers.
Seems the Felixstowe guys had a great time on fin at the Dip. My mileage
was low 10.4nm, but Garmin connect said I entered the anaerobic orange
zone, with most of the sail in the aero green zone, with all that pumping
to catch gusts. My pumping is pretty rubbish, so I missed half the good
gusts. In a straight smash up with wingF James from Mistley end to
Wrabness, I overtook him but couldn't pull away. That speed was 18.46 kts
so these wings are fast! Good day allround and weather was hot, with
several people swimming in the shallow water. Hooked up with some old
faces, not seen for a while. More wind Tues/Wed but can’t make either
days. One wind foiler was very lucky. His UJ broke as he came in to land.
The tide had turned, so it would have been a disaster if he was on the far
bank.
